Sanne Rambags[edit]

Sanne Rambags (Goirle, 9 October 1994)[1], is a Dutch vocalist, composer and lyricist. She is not tied to just one genre and performs jazz, improvised music and world music.

Career[edit]

Rambags studied at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA) in Tilburg. She graduated in 2017. Later , in Switzerland, Rambags studied under Susanne Abbuehl and she further developed her skills in poetry and improvisation. In 2015, she began collaborating with Joost Lijbaart and Bram Stadhouders, with whom she formed the trio Under the Surface.[2] The same year saw the formation of Mudita [3], a collaboration with Sjoerd van Eijck and Koen Smits, and Rambags was also selected for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. In 2017, she debuted with Under the Surface with their self-titled album which was nominated for an Edison, the most prestigious music awards in the Netherlands . This was followed in 2018 by the album Listen to the Sound of the Forest which delivered Mudita an Edison in the National Vocal Jazz category.[4] In 2020, Rambags’ contribution to the album Trinity by the group Under the Surface earned her another Edison nomination in the National Vocal Jazz category. In 2021 she is nominated twice for an Edison award for her solo album `SONNA`. Once for the Edison Jazzism audience award and once in the category Jazz Vocal National.

In 2019 she was chosen as a Young VIP . With her European Colours Group, Rambags toured with various European musicians , including Oddrun Lilja Jonsdottir, Vincent Courtois and Julian Sartorius. She has also collaborated with the Martin Fondse Orchestra, Capella Pratensis, the dance company de Stilte and the Kika Sprangers Large Ensemble .

Rambags released her first solo album, SONNA, in 2020. To coincide with the album release, Sanne founded SONNA Records.[5]

In 2021, she will be collaborating on the Criss Cross Europe project led by Jim Black.[6]

Rambags has performed at numerous jazz festivals, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Celtic Connections[7], Eurojazz Mexico and the Taichung Jazz Festival.[8]
