Santhana Devan is an upcoming Tamil language period drama film produced, written and directed by Ameer. Featuring Arya in the lead role, alongside Ameer and Sathya, the film began production in January 2017.[1]

Production[edit]
Ameer announced in December 2015 that he was set to work with Arya on a village-based film, and was deliberating whether to begin the film or take up alternate projects such as Kaan starring Silambarasan or a bilingual love story starring Rana Daggubati.[2] Pre-production work on the film with Arya progressed throughout 2016, with Ameer finalising the cast of the film. Actresses including Nayanthara and Aishwarya Rajesh were considered for roles, while Satna Titus was briefly signed on but later replaced by Adithi, previously seen in Pattadhari (2016).[3][4][5] Kruthika Jayakumar also joined the team, marking her debut in Tamil films.[6]
The team held a press conference in early January 2017, where it was announced that Ameer and Arya's younger brother Sathya would also be seen portraying pivotal roles in the film. Yuvan Shankar Raja and Sivakumar Vijayan were signed as the music composer and cinematographer of the film, while Vairamuthu was brought in to write lyrics for songs in the film.[7] Ameer stated that Santhana Devan would be a period film about Tamil culture, with several scenes featuring jallikattu written in the script.[8] Production was delayed, with Arya stating it would resume once the makers received additional funds.[9]
