Santosh Nagarakatte is a computer scientist specializing in memory safety, compiler correctness, correct rounding, and eBPF verification. As of 2026, he is a professor and the undergraduate program director of computer science at Rutgers University. He is best known for his work on spatial and temporal memory safety for C programs [1], verification of peephole optimizations in the LLVM compiler [2], correctly rounded math libraries with RLIBM project [3], and verification of the eBPF verifier in the Linux kernel [4]. His talk A Case for Correctly Rounded Math Libraries at the 2022 PapersWeLove conference provides an accessible introduction on the issues of correct rounding with elementary functions and the ideas behind the RLIBM project.
He spent his sabbatical as a visiting faculty member in the computer science department at Princeton University in 2016. He has received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2015 and was selected as the ACM Distinguished Scientist in 2023.
