Sapien Network

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Sapien Network is an American decentralized social news company based in Fremont, California. Sapien uses the ERC20 technical standard for the platform’s proprietary utility token, SPN. Sapien was co-founded in 2017 by two University of California, Berkeley students, Ankit Bhatia and Robert Giometti.[1]

History[edit]

Bhatia and Giometti created Sapien based on concerns about user data privacy on conventional social news platforms. They also cite blockchain and Ethereum as an alternative architecture from centralized news platforms.[2]

Sapien conducted an accredited crowdsale on January 31, 2018, that raised over $11 million in two hours.[3][4]

On April 30, 2018, the Sapien Network beta was released to all SPN holders. As of August 2018, over 4000 users are active on the platform and over 10 million SPN has been staked.[5]

On June 30, 2018, the Sapien Rewards Engine went live. Mobile applications for the Sapien Network were released on the Apple Store and Google Play Store earlier that month.

Product[edit]

Sapien’s beta platform contains public and private browsing features that the user can change at any time. In addition, all messages and data on the platform are encrypted.[6] Sapien is partnered with DAOstack, a decentralized governance framework that will be implemented in user reputation, compensation, and communities to ensure the integrity of the platform.

These features are part of a broader product strategy aimed at creating high quality user content, for which creators may be compensated with SPN.[7]

Sapien is currently partnered with Rocket.Chat, UC Berkeley Blockchain Lab, ComplyAdvantage, and DAOstrack. It’s blockchain based competitors include Steemit and Po.et.
