Life and career
Childhood and life
Sara Fajira is an Indonesian singer who was born in Surabaya on May 3, 1996. Having musician parents made Sara Fajira inherit her parents' musical talents. The second child of Rose Yazda Juliana and Muhammad Muhdy made Sara a natural talent in music. Sara Fajira has a keyboardist father and a singer mother; her older brother, Fabio Farisqo, is also a singer and songwriter, and her younger sister, Naykilla, is also a good rapper like herself. Even though having a keyboardist father did not force Sara to be proficient in playing a musical instrument, living in an affluent and simple family made Sara Fajira begin to channel her talents since she was a child.
Early career
Her talent in the arts began to appear when Sara Fajira was still studying Kindergarten at Al Manar Kindergarten, Surabaya, in 2001. Since Kindergarten, Sara admitted that she liked listening to music, but her artistic interest started by participating in dancing activities. Entering elementary school, Sara was just starting to discover her singing talent. There were two school changes at the beginning, from SDN Babatan 1, then moving to SDN Pegirian 2, and finally at SDN Genjeran 2 Surabaya. Little Sara Fajira continued to grow with a talent as a singer. After a year, little Sara Fajira had the chance to appear in her school marawis group. The school, realizing Sara's talent, asked her to become a vocalist in her marawis group. In grades 4 and 5, she participated in the marawis competition and won 2nd place and 1st place. So there were two rounds of categories: the first round was 1st winner, the second round was 2nd winner.
Entering the 6th grade of elementary school, Sara started participating in various solo singing competitions. She participated in various competitions, including registering for the Little Idol 2 event in 2008 and qualifying for the top 42.
Having a singer mother makes Sara feel like she has a private vocal teacher. Her singing talent continued to be practiced by her mother when Sara began to show interest in singing. Entering junior high and high school, Sara Fajira's abilities matured. She spent three years of education at SMP PGRI 1 Surabaya, and Sara Fajira always participated in musical activities at her school.
And entering high school, Sara Fajira, who was starting to be a teenager, formed a band with her friends with an alternative rock music style. Even though she was a teenager, Sara did not want to stop sharpening her skills through various competitions. She also returned to participate in a Japanese karaoke competition. With her talent and Sara's passion for Japanese culture, she won the competition and was entitled to the 1st place trophy in East Java.
For Sara, she did not want enough of her singing and dancing talents. During high school, Sara also participated in the GGS Looking for a Star, an event to attract acting talents and enter the top 20 in Surabaya. All that was done by Sara because of her own desire; she wanted to know what it felt like to be competitive in various fields.
Professional career
Sara Fajira's professional career began when she participated in the Just Duet competition at NET. Sara, known as a young rapper, studied rapping since she was in high school. At that time, she was forced to learn to rap because one of the band members decided to leave, and Sara was asked to fill in the rap part of the band (a band in a cafe in Surabaya).
Uniquely, Sara learned her skills in rapping from her sister, who was already good at rapping. As a result, Sara was able to rap and fill the void in her band.
Capitalizing on her ability as a rapper, Sara Fajira also participated in the Just Duet event at NET in 2016, after previously being in the band during 2015–2016. This time, her mother saw her daughter's talent, encouraged Sara to join the event, and try her luck. Who would have thought, the mother's instincts bore fruit. Sara Fajira reached the runner-up position in the event.
Lathi's success
Talking about Sara Fajira will not be separated from her phenomenal song with Weird Genius entitled "Lathi." Sara, who started her professional career in 2016, truly feels the effect of the success of the song "Lathi," which has been watched by 65 million YouTube viewers. It is not only influential on her pre-"Lathi" works. Sara Fajira also felt the impact on social media.
Now many are following her on Instagram, and during this Lockdown, Sara is almost every day invited to live streams with several media and radio stations.
Being a singer since childhood and participating in various talent search events, Sara Fajira admits that her duet with Weird Genius in the song "Lathi" is the pinnacle of her success.
She feels grateful to be invited by Weird Genius to bring back "Lathi," which has now changed her in music.
With her current success, Sara Fajira admitted that she did not think that she could be in such a successful position today. She did not expect the music video for the song "Lathi" to get tens of millions of viewers.
Even her acting in the video clip has been praised so much that it was made into a #LathiChallenge. Prior to joining Weird Genius, Sara had often been invited to collaborate with several well-known DJs and musicians. A name as big as Hedi Yunus and Eka Gustiwana once invited her to a duet in a single.
Planned use of Javanese music as an identity
After the success of the song "Lathi," Sara Fajira will change her music and begin to insert Javanese music as an identity. The song "Lathi" has made Sara known as a reliable singer in singing Javanese songs. Having Javanese blood and being born in Surabaya made Sara want to make her identity stronger.
Sara Fajira admitted that this desire only carried over after she sang the song "Lathi" and got a singer label.[5][6]
