Sara Pantuliano
Sara Pantuliano CMG is Chief Executive at Overseas Development Institute and editor-in-chief of the journal Disasters.
Education
Pantuliano has a Masters in Political Science (magna cum laude) from the Università degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale".[citation needed] She earned her doctorate in Politics and International Studies from the University of Leeds.[1]
Career
Pantuliano led a high-profile UN response in Sudan's Nuba Mountains from 2000-2003, along with heading the Peacebuilding Unit in United Nations Development Programme Sudan. She then acted as an observer for the Government of Italy at the IGAD Sudan peace process that led to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (2002-2005).
She lectured in Conflict Analysis and Development Studies at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam.[2]
In 2006 she joined the Overseas Development Institute as a Research Fellow, and became the Director of its Humanitarian Policy Group in 2009. Subsequently, she held the positions of Director of Humanitarian Programmes (2014-2016) and Managing Director, before being appointed Chief Executive in 2019.
She is a member of the UN Secretary-General's Sixth Advisory Group of the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund and of United Nations Population Fund International Conference on Population and Development 25[3] High Level Commission.
Pantuliano is a member of World Economic Forum High-Level Group on Humanitarian Resilience and Investing, Digital Currency Governance Consortium Steering Committee, and the Global Future Council on the New Agenda for Fragility and Resilience.[4]
In 2016 she served as a member of the Independent Team of Advisers established by the United Nations Economic and Social Council to formulate recommendations on the reform of the UN development system.
Pantuliano is editor of the journal Disasters.[5]
She was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the 2024 New Year Honours for services to peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance and international development.[6]
