Sarah Green Carmichael
Sarah Green Carmichael, born Sarah K. Green (born November 30, 1981)[1] is a Massachusetts-based American journalist. She mainly writes about management, business, finance, and leadership[2], and is currently an Editor at Bloomberg Opinion. Early life and education
Carmichael earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She attended Connecticut College from 2000–2002, earning Dean’s List (high honors). Continuing her degree program, Brown University was her next step where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She completed an honors thesis on Jane Austen and, in 2003, won the essay contest of the Jane Austen Society of North America. [3]
Career
After her college graduation, Carmichael began her professional career by working as a researcher for Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, Ellen Goodman at the Boston Globe, from 2004 to 2005. Immediately following that, she became a Sports Columnist at Metro Boston, where she wrote weekly columns, usually about baseball. Two years later, she started working as an Editorial Coordinator at the Harvard Business Review alongside her work at Metro Boston, which ended in 2010. Between 2007 and 2018, Carmichael climbed the professional ladder at HBR, growing from her original position to Assistant Editor, Associate Editor, Senior Associate Editor, Senior Editor, and, finally, Executive Editor. In 2018, she transitioned to a Managing Editor of Ideas position at Barron’s, where she worked for a year, leading the magazine’s coverage of ideas, from perennial worries to new concepts like Bitcoin. In 2019, Sarah Green Carmichael moved on to the position she still holds today: Editor and Columnist at Bloomberg LP.[3] [4]
Awards and honors
Whether during her academic career or her professional one, Sarah Green Carmichael received numerous awards and honors attesting to her skill and dedication. While attending Connecticut College, she was on the Dean’s List with High Honors, and success followed her to Brown University from which she graduated Magna Cum Laude, with her honors thesis winning the 2003 Jane Austen Society of North America essay contest. During her tenure as the Harvard Business Review Executive Editor, the website won the Webby Award for Best Business Website three consecutive times[5]. Additionally, she hosted the HBR IdeaCast podcast, which was nominated not once, but twice for a National Magazine Award.[6] [3]
