Sarah Partridge
Sarah Partridge (born Oct. 28 1960) is an American Jazz vocalist/songwriter and former actress. She is known for her interpretations of the Great American Songbook as well as for writing her own compositions. Partridge was born in Boston, MA and moved to Birmingham, AL at the age of 15. She is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Speech (class of 1982).
Career in 1983 Partridge started her career as an actress opposite Tom Cruise in "Risky Business" as Kessler. In addition to several roles in television and film, her work in voiceovers included starring roles in "My Little Pony: The Movie", `"My Little Pony" the series (Generation 1), and "Defenders Of The Earth". Her career in music started in 1994 when she accepted a dare at a karaoke night at the Improv in Los Angeles and sang Gershwin's "Summertime.” The impromptu performance caught the ear of a booker, who promptly hired her to perform in a concert with top tier L.A. jazz musicians. In 1998 Partridge released her first album "I'll Be Easy To Find" to much acclaim. She is a "throwback to those diamond nights in Manhattan bistros.[1]" said the New York Daily News. Her second and third studio albums, "Blame it On My Youth" and "You Are There, Songs For My Father" were released in 2004 and 2006, respectively by Nagel/Heyer Records. In 2015 Sarah inked a deal with Origin Records for her fifth album "I Never Thought I'd Be Here" after she released "Perspective" in 2010 under her own production company, Peartree Productions.
She has worked alongside legends Doc Cheatham, Bucky Pizzareli, and Frank Wess. Partridge has also perfromed with Harry Allen, and Richard De Rosa on many occasions. In 2017 Partridge teamed up with Janis Ian for the Album "Bright Lights & Promises: Redefining Janis Ian" which reimagined a collection of Ian's songs. The pair co-wrote two originals for the album, and sing together on the song "A Quarter Past Heartache". The disc landed on several "Best of the Year" lists for Jazz releases of 2017[2][3]
