In the mid-1990s she coded the first parliamentary website at the age of 23, teaching the then-government leaders how to turn on computers, and to use applications such as MS Word and MS Excel. Early Life[edit]

Saranchimeg was born on February 2, 1968 as the eldest daughter, and had two sisters and a brother. Her father Batsukh.D is an economist and her mother Serjmyadag.D is a pharmacist and accountant. Their family was well known in their community as a hardworking family.

From the time she was in secondary school, she was the class president, leading the class talent  show and sports competitions. Saranchimeg was known for always reaching out a helping hand to students in need.

It is noted that playing chess with the elderly locals gave her the ability to see the connection between things.

After being at the top of her class for 40 consecutive semesters, and winning every single olympiad without skipping a single one, it was time for her to choose her profession. At the time, the gifted students would be more likely to choose the international relations major. Saranchimeg was also considering the same when her economist father took her all the way from Dundgovi to Erdenet City to “show her the future”. He showed his daughter the automatic control system of the Erdenet Plant and said “This is the future”. The Erdenet plant was the only automated control system in Mongolia in the 1980s. Following her father’s advice, she graduated from the Novosibirsk University of Electrical Engineering in 1987 with a degree in IT engineering.

Family, Spouse[edit]

While studying at Novosibirsk University, she met her husband, Munkhbaatar.D, and got their marriage license in 1989. In 2014, they happily had their silver wedding in Sanremo, Italy. Along with her husband, they became the parents to two sons. Saranchimeg likes to say that “There is much to learn from the younger generation” and is like friends with her two sons. The eldest son, Itgel, is a trusted advisor to his mother, a professional sports coach, and entrepreneur. Like other youth in Mongolia, they are active in start-ups, and the business sector.

The youngest son, Temuulen, is a high school student and an active dancer. Saranchimeg believes the childrens’ hobbies should be supported and be brought up according to their interests.

Saranchimeg’s husband, Munkhbaatar, also graduated from the Novosibirsk Engineering and Technical School with a degree in Communication Engineering.

She has two younger sisters, and a younger brother. Her brother Narankhuu.B was elected to the Parliament from 2012-2020 by the Democratic Party. This is the first time in the history of Mongolia that two members of the same family have been elected from two different parties at the same time.

Ms Saranchimeg’s role places her at the forefront of the IPU’s work on new technology and its role within democracy.[2]

Secretariat of the State Great Hural [3][edit]

According to the human resources policy of the socialist era, it was necessary to establish a computer department in the Secretariat of the State Great Hural, thus Saranchimeg was appointed to a new two-person department. In the mid-1990s she coded the first parliamentary website at the age of 23, teaching the then-government leaders how to turn on computers, and to use applications such as Word and Excel. She also taught usage of the internet, and gave their first lessons on using e-mail. In addition to being one of the first IT engineers of Mongolia, she is commonly known for being one of the pioneers as a female software engineer.

Director of the  National Garden Park, Ulaanbaatar’s state-owned enterprise[4]

Aware of the need to increase Ulaanbaatar’s budget to create a standard green space like New York’s Central Park, B.Saranchimeg and her team developed a feasibility study, and presented it to foreign investors, raising more than MNT 5 billion. Thanks to her efforts, the people of Ulaanbaatar are grateful for the many sports fields, and the fully equipped park that has become a remedy for the citizens.

National Garden Park is still the largest green space in Ulaanbaatar, with a total area of 183 hectares. Initially, her team was composed of 27 employees, and five shovels. At the point of her career advancement, she left the park’s green space fully endowed, equipped, and with a professional team of 110 people.

From 2008-2016, a member of the Ulaanbaatar City Citizens Representatives Assembly

At the time, citizens and policy makers had little understanding of the importance of improving public awareness of green growth, and ecological education, and the long-term importance of environmental quality and the pristine nature of human life. She worked on spreading awareness and fixing these issues. B.Saranchimeg paid special attention to improving ecological education, and made great efforts to pass the law on green areas.

2016-2020 Member of Parliament

In the Mongolian parliamentary elections, B.Saranchimeg was nominated by the Mongolian People's Party from Bayanzurkh District, the most populous district in Ulaanbaatar, and was victorious by a landslide.

Major bills B.Saranchimeg initiated during this period include:

  • Chaired the working group to draft
    • The Law on Water Pollution
    • The Law on Vocational Education and Training
    • The Law on Physical Education, and Sports
  • Submitted the draft Law on Pension Reform in collaboration with five prominent Members of Parliament

This was a turning point for Mongolia. If citizens have the right to transfer 4 percent out of their monthly 17 percent the Government deducts from their salaries into a private pension fund, they will be able to lead a healthy lifestyle without suffering low income when they reach retirement age. Further, this could also be inherited by their children.

During this time, she has continued to prioritize green development, and has provided many areas in Bayanzurkh District with lighting, surveillance cameras, paved roads, and playgrounds. This is much improvement compared to when children, and the elderly were afraid to walk alone in the district formerly covered in dust and garbage. A small park with soccer, basketball, and volleyball fields has opened near the General Authority for Border Protection. Through nearly guarding the gates of the authorities of Ulaanbaatar for a long time, this is how the piece of land where construction was about to begin has been kept as public property and a green area. In the past, she has built three green areas, one of which is in her home land, the Gobi region. The greening of the Gobi region has been successful and the large parks with tall trees are expanding.

2020-Present Member of Parliament

B.Saranchimeg was elected for the second time from Bayanzurkh District in the Parliamentary Elections of Mongolia, the most populous district of Ulaanbaatar, and won by a landslide. Her re-election from her previous constituency is a testament of her hard work and dignity as a Member of Parliament.

During the four years of the election, she has been focusing on the environment, green space, the concern of desertification, and the development of a green economy. In 2022, She was elected Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Environment, Food and Agriculture.
