Sarath Sabha is an Indian actor who appears in Malayalam cinema. He is best known for his roles in Malik (2021), Kannur Squad (2023), and Odiyan (2018). He also played a prominent part in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (2025).[1][2]
Early life and education
Sabha developed an interest in acting during his school years, participating regularly in youth festival drama competitions. He began stage acting in the sixth standard and later pursued a postgraduate degree in acting at the School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur.[3]
He completed his schooling at GHSS Peringottukurissi.[4]
During his studies, he appeared in films such as Ottayaal Paatha, which won the Kerala State Award for Second Best Film in 2016, and Maravi. Many of his early projects, however, did not reach theatres. His first commercial cinema role was in Arun Dominic’s Tharangam, where he played a naïve thief, marking his proper entry into mainstream Malayalam cinema.[3]
Career
After graduating from the School of Drama, Sabha moved to Kochi to explore opportunities in theatre and film. He attended workshops, acted in stage productions, and worked as a freelance content writer for television channels.[4]
He gained further visibility with films such as Mr. and Mrs. Rowdy and Jan.E.Man (2021). The latter, in particular, brought him recognition within the industry. Known for adapting to diverse linguistic and cultural contexts, he has portrayed characters using different Malayalam dialects: the Palakkad dialect in Jan.E.Man, Kollam slang in Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, Kannur slang in Pranaya Vilasam, and Thrissur slang in Corona Dhavan.[1]
In 2025, Sabha took on a villainous role in Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. The character, opposite a female superhero, marked a shift from his earlier comic and positive portrayals. For the role, he incorporated a Kannada–Malayalam speech blend to reflect how a Karnataka native might speak limited Malayalam. Sabha later mentioned drawing inspiration from Ishwar Malpe, a diver involved in the Shiroor disaster rescue mission, whose mixed-language communication influenced his performance.[1]
