Saregama India Ltd., formerly known as The Gramophone Company of India Ltd., is the oldest music label company in India. Established in 1901, it is owned by the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group and is listed on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The company's headquarters are located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, with additional offices in Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi. Saregama is renowned for its extensive music catalogue, film production under the brand Yoodlee Films, and television content production.[1][2][3]

The company was founded in 1901 as The Gramophone and Typewriter Ltd. It began its operations by recording the first song in India and served as the first overseas branch of the Gramophone Company (later EMI). Over the years, it underwent several name changes, including The Gramophone Co. (India) Limited in 1946 and The Gramophone Company of India Limited in 1968. In 1985, RPG Group acquired the company from EMI, leading to its current ownership. The company was eventually rebranded as Saregama India Limited on November 3, 2000.[4][5]

Products and Brands[edit]

Saregama's flagship product is Carvaan, a portable music player pre-loaded with a vast collection of evergreen songs spanning various genres and languages. Carvaan has gained immense popularity for its ease of use and nostalgic appeal. The company also produces films under the banner of Yoodlee Films, known for its critically acclaimed productions across different genres and languages. Additionally, Saregama is involved in the production of television content in multiple languages.[6][7][8]
