Sasan K. Goodarzi[edit]

Sasan K. Goodarz (born July 7, 1968)...[1] is an American business executive and has served as Chief Executive Officer of Intuit [2] since January, 2019. Before being promoted to CEO Goodarzi held several other senior management and C-level positions within the Intuit company [1].

Early Life and Education[edit]

Goodarzi was born in Tehran, Iran. He left Tehran at the age of 9, eight months before the Iranian Revolution started[3]. He and his mother settled in Orlando, FL, where his older brothers lived.

During an interview with CNBC's Fortt Knox[4], Sasan detailed how his family left everything behind when they immigrated to America, and the family was provided for financially by Goodarzi’s older brother, who ran a small import/export business focusing on Middle Eastern food in Orlando, FL. Goodarzi experienced life in America during the Iran Hostage Crisis.

In 1989, Goodarzi graduated from The University of Central Florida (UCF) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering[1]. In 2002, Goodarzi completed graduate school at Northwestern, receiving his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Kellogg School of Management.

Career[edit]

Before his role at Intuit, Goodarzi served as an upper-level manager at Nexant, Inc. (now Resource Innovations)[5], and Invensys (now Schneider Electric)[6].

Goodarzi’s career at Intuit began in 2004. Since then, Goodarzi has held various leadership roles at Intuit: ● EVP of Intuit’s Small Business & Self-employed Group ● EVP of Intuit’s Consumer Tax Group ● Intuit’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) ● General Manager of ProTax ● General Manager of Intuit’s Financial Services

Goodarzi has been noted for overseeing the largest acquisitions[7] since Intuit was founded in 1983. The company acquired Credit Karma for $8.1 billion[8] and Mailchimp for $12 billion[9] under Goodarzi. According to Yahoo! Finance[10], “…for the deal-making Goodarzi, the strategy is simple: bring in new technologies and grow Intuit even faster as a result.” He has been a guest on CNBC[11] and covered in major media, including Forbes[12], Bloomberg[13], and New York Times[14].

Intuit has seen strong growth during Goodrazi’s tenure in his leadership role. MarketBeat[15] reported that full-year revenue was up 32% in FY22, including the addition of Mailchimp and a full year of Credit Karma. In addition, the Small Business and Self-Employed Group grew 38% in revenue, including 16 points from Mailchimp, Consumer Group revenue grew 10%, and Credit Karma was up 58% in revenue – to a total of $1.8 billion[16] - on a pro forma basis year-over-year. During Goodarzi’s current leadership role, Intuit was named one of the Best Companies to Work For[17] and he has a 96% approval rating on Glassdoor[18].

Goodarzi serves on the boards for Atlassian and Intuit[19]. He has launched internal social justice initiatives like hiring Intuit’s first Racial Equality Director, La Toya Haynes, and to create diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)[20] practices and events among Intuit’s workforce, such as its Trans+ Summit event[21].

Honors and Awards[edit]

In 2007, as Vice President and General Manager, Professional Tax Business for Intuit, Goodarzi was included as a Top 40 under 40[22] honoree.

In 2019, Goodarzi won the honor of Best CEO[23], and in 2020 Goodarzi was named FORTUNE’s Businessperson of the Year[24]. Then in 2022, Goodarzi was recognized as one of the Three Fortune 500 CEOs to Follow on Social Media[25].

Personal Life[edit]

Today, Goodarzi resides in the Bay Area[1] with his wife, Shirin. They have two children[26]

Shirin and Goodarzi provide financial assistance to female students of Iranian descent who migrated to the United States in the last seven years through their scholarship program with the Pars Equality Center[27]
