Sasha Perea (born 17 August 1993) is a Colombian–American model, entertainment host[1], tech co-founder[2], and beauty pageant titleholder. On July 17, 2021, she was crowned Miss District of Columbia USA 2021. She made history as the first Colombian and the first Afro-Latina to represent the District of Columbia at the Miss USA competition.
Early Life
Perea is a first-generation Colombian–American. She has a Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies with a Concentration in Media and Technological Productions from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Pageantry
Perea started her pageant career at 15 years old, after her mother surprisingly signed her up for her first competition. In 2010, she won her first title of Miss Virginia Cinderella Teen and went on to compete at the Miss Cinderella International [3] Pageant in Dallas, Texas. She continued her pageant journey with the Miss World America system. In 2016, she won the title of Miss Virginia World 2016 and placed second runner-up. In 2017, she returned to the Miss World America pageant and placed Top 16.
In 2019, she competed at the Miss District of Columbia USA placing Top 12 and winning the best evening gown award. In 2020, she competed at the Miss District of Columbia USA pageant where she placed Top 5. On July 17, 2021 Perea competed in the Miss District of Columbia USA[4] pageant. She won the competition in a historic moment as the first Colombian and the first Afro-Latinx winner to win the competition.
Her very first interview[5] aired on RCN one of the largest television stations in Colombia. She highlighted her family's journey from Colombia to the United States of America, her pageant history and future endeavors.
As Miss District of Columbia USA 2021, she represented Washington, DC at the Miss USA[6] 2021 pageant which was held in Tulsa, Oklahoma[7]. Her platform highlighted the need for women in STEM and women in leadership positions.
As of 2022, she is the co-founder of Foobee, the world's first crypto dating application, she is a red carpet host, a model and the author of Model Mindset: A Beginner's Guide to the Modeling Industry.
Career
Hosting
Perea is an experienced host/emcee known for asking thought-provoking questions. The bilingual host has covered DC Fashionweek[8] twice, which is the 5th most recognized fashion show in the nation.
Due to her pageant and media background, she is a sought-after pageant host. She has covered both the Maryland and Virginia International Pageants [9] since 2018.
Awards:
- On October 10, 2021 Perea was selected as a recipient of the DMV 35 under 35[10]
- On March 26, 2021 Perea was presented with a Women's History Month award[11] for her contributions to Washington, DC
- On June 5, 2022, Perea was presented with an award by the DC's Mayor's Office and the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs at the inaugural DC Afro-Latino Festival.
