Sasha Yelaun (born October 31, 1984) is a Feature Film Producer. He produced The Vanished directed by Peter Facinelli starring Thomas Jane, Anne Heche, and Jason Patric which was ranked #2 on Netflix earlier this year[1] and Monstrous, an upcoming supernatural thriller directed by Chris Sivertson and starring Christina Ricci.[2]

Early life[edit]

Yelaun was born in Kishinev, Moldova, the son of Russian Jewish refugees Vitaliy Yelaun, a software engineer and Golda Yelaun, a chemist. His parents are from Ukraine. He was raised Jewish and attended Framingham High School in Framingham, MA in the suburbs where he spent most of his childhood years.

He studied Psychology and Film Studies at Brandeis University and attended the Boston University Los Angeles Internship Program and the Sydney Film Studies Program. Later he earned his MFA in Producing from the New York Film Academy.

Background[edit]

Yelaun initially started out as a copywriter for a magazine (P3 Update) and then worked at both Paramount Studios and ABC/Touchstone Television and for independent film producers such as Marty Katz and Lewis B. Chesler, along with experimenting as a full time background actor before he dived into producing.

Film Career[edit]

Yelaun made his feature film debut as a Line Producer on the production of Benjamin Troubles directed by Kai Ephron written by Lee H. Ross (Downloading Nancy) in 2011. In 2014, he executive produced Bereave starring Malcolm McDowell, and Jane Seymour which performed well in the festival circuit and later sold to MGM. Along the way, he did several other indies as producer and executive produer including Half Brothers starring Jurgen Prochnow, and Three Holes and a Smoking Gun starring James Wilder. In 2015/2016, he co-executive produced 10,000 Saints directed by Oscar nominated duo Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini starring Ethan Hawke which had it's premiere at Sundance, the Book of Love directed by Bill Purple starring Jessica Biel, Jason Sudeikis, Maisie Williams, with Justin Timberlake doing the score, and Wild Oats directed by Andy Tenant starring Demi Moore, Shirley Maclaine and Jessica Lange.

In 2017, he became involved with animation as an executive producer on the Netflix Original Animal Crackers starring the power couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, and Curpigeon[3] which premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival alongside Kobe Bryant and Glen Keane's oscar winning Dear Basketball. The shorts animation section was curated by Whoopi Goldberg. In 2018, he produced the American thriller River Runs Red[4] In 2019, he produced Hell on the Border, a true story about Bass Reeves.[5]

Most recently, Sasha was spotted in Little Rock, Arkansas discussing the challenges of film production during the pandemic while producing the sci fi comedy The Chariot helmed by Adam Sigal starring Thomas Mann, John Malkovich, and Rosa Salazar.[6]

Sasha married Anna Yelaun on March 6, 2018 and they have a daughter together, Arianna Yelaun who was born on September 6, 2018. They currently reside in Austin, Texas.
