Sashidhar Jagdishan is an Indian banker and corporate executive who currently serves as the Managing Director and CEO of HDFC Bank.[1] He was appointed to the role by the Reserve Bank of India in 2020, following the retirement of Aditya Puri. Puri had held this position for 26 years.[2] As of 2023, Jagdishan was the highest-paid bank chief executive in India.[3]
Early Life and Education
Sashidhar spent his early years in Matunga, Mumbai. He attended Don Bosco High School for his secondary education. Jagdishan holds a Bachelor's degree in Science with a specialization in Physics from Mumbai University. Additionally, he is also a Chartered Accountant. He received his Master's degree in Economics of Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Sheffield.[4][5]
Career
Jagdishan worked for three years at Deutsche Bank, AG in Mumbai.[6]
After that, he joined HDFC Bank in 1996, and has worked there for the last 26 years. He was appointed the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of HDFC Bank in 2008.[2] In 2020, he then was appointed the Managing Director and CEO of HDFC Bank.
