Satvik Deswal (born 23 March 2007) is an Indian professional cricketer who plays as a left-arm wrist-spin bowling all-rounder.[1] He gained significant prominence in the domestic circuit after a standout performance in the 2025 Pondicherry Premier League (PPL).[2] In December 2025, he was signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the 2026 IPL season.[3][4]
Early career
Deswal spent several seasons as a team intern and net bowler for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).[2] During his tenure as an intern, he impressed the coaching staff with his unique left-arm wrist spin, eventually leading to a professional contract.[3] Head coach Andy Flower described him as a "mystery bowler" with significant "X-factor" potential.[2][5]
Domestic career
Deswal made his competitive debut in the 2025 Pondicherry Premier League (PPL), representing the Ossudu Accord Warriors.[6] He finished the tournament as one of the top wicket-takers, claiming 14 wickets in 10 matches.[7] Notably, he was the only bowler in the competition to maintain an economy rate under 6.00, finishing with an economy of 5.90 and a bowling average of 16.86.[2][8] His best bowling figures of 3/11 were recorded against the Mahe Megalo Strikers on 10 July 2025.[9]
Indian Premier League
During the IPL 2026 auction in December 2025, Deswal was signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru at his base price of ₹30 lakh.[10][11] At the age of 18, he was identified as one of the youngest players in the 2026 season.[10][5] The RCB management recruited him specifically as a backup option for wrist-spinner Suyash Sharma.[3][12]
Eligibility controversy
Following the IPL auction, the Pondicherry Native Cricket Player Association (PNCPA) filed a formal complaint with the BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) in December 2025.[citation needed] The complaint alleged that Deswal had forged residency documents to participate in the Pondicherry domestic circuit while still being registered with the Haryana Cricket Association (HCA) as recently as August 2025.[13][14] As of March 2026, the BCCI investigation is ongoing, and no official disqualification has been announced.[2]
