Sayat Demissie is an Ethiopian model, singer, actress, designer and Director[1]. Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Demissie began her career as a model at the age of 17, the same year she won the Miss Ethiopia beauty contest and subsequently entered the Miss world contest held in 2004, finishing in the top 20[2].

Acting

Demissie made her film debut alongside Tilahun Zewege in the critically acclaimed film 'Sara'. She has also appeared in the commercially successful films such as Laundry Boy, Selanchi, Adamt (2013) and more recently Der weiße Äthiopier (2015) Dutch for (she is Ethiopian)[3].

Music

Demissie emerged as a singer in 2011, releasing her debut Album "Kifel Sost" vol.1 including her single "Tew Maneh".

Personal life

Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1986, Demissie is the last of four children in a family of six[4]. Demissie completed high school in 2004. Demissie is vocal about her feminist beliefs and Pan Africanism[5].

Philanthropy

Demissie joined "because I am a girl" campaign organised by Plan International that supports the youth-led, global movement for girls’ rights and gender equality.
