Scarlett Harvey is an English ballet dancer and an Artist of The Royal Ballet based at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London.[1]
Early life and education
Harvey was born in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire.[1] She began her dance training at the age of two at the Lesley Swaby Dance Centre in her hometown.[1] She later joined Northern Ballet's Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) scheme and was accepted into The Royal Ballet School Junior Associate Programme.[1]
At age 11, she attended Elmhurst Ballet School before competing in the Youth America Grand Prix in Paris, where she gained entry to The Royal Ballet School at White Lodge in 2017.[1] She progressed to The Royal Ballet Upper School, graduating in 2022.[1] During her time at the school, she received the April Olrich Award for dynamic performance as well as the 2nd Year Artistic Prize for progress and endeavour.[1]
Career
As a student at The Royal Ballet School, Harvey performed leading roles in student productions, including Robert Binet's Earthborn and Petal Millar Ashmole's Bottega.[1] During her final school year, she appeared alongside The Royal Ballet corps de ballet in productions of Giselle, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, and Swan Lake.[1] For her 2022 graduation performance, she danced the lead role in Wayne McGregor's PreSentient and the tarantella solo in Raymonda Act III.[1]
Upon graduating in 2022, Harvey joined The Royal Ballet as an Aud Jebsen Young Dancer for the 2022/23 season.[1] She was promoted to the rank of Artist at the start of the 2023/24 season.[2] With the company, she has danced across major classical and contemporary repertoires and created a role in Pam Tanowitz's Or Forevermore.[1]
