Scorpion attack
Scorpion attack, or Pincer movement - Airstrike are combined attack tactics used by many military units. Army forces, with two units attacking from two sides of the enemy, force them into a narrow space and try to keep them contained. Next, the military's air force targets the constricted enemy position, destroying them with airstrikes.
This tactic requires good coordination between the air force and the army of the attackers, to avoid bombs from air raids being dropped on friendly troops.
Source
Pincer movement - air raid involves tactical pincers - shelling, which is a tactical combination of infantry and artillery, used in modern warfare. At the beginning of the 19th century, tactical pliers - artillery were a basic tactic of the French Army and Napoleon's favorite tactic. Artillery would be the main attack force, arranged in rows, facing the enemy. Spear troops and musketeers would line up in front of them to protect themselves in situations where artillery is attacked, but they were not the main attacking force. French cavalry would attack enemy troops on both sides of the wing, and when their formation was pressed together, French artillery would fire directly to destroy them.
Variations
In Operation Lea, on October 7, 1947, the French force deployed a "pincer movement" to attack Viet Bac with the navy and army, and an attack of paratroopers:
- A river-navy force from Hanoi moving along the Red River, Lo River, to Gam River, and finally deployed to the leftside area of Viet Bac.[1]
- An army wing deployed opposite the navy wing to create a "pincer movement" for the Viet Bac, intended to close at the Dai Thi.[2]
- French paratrooper forces, with 2,000 paratroopers,[3] were dropped into the center area of Viet Bac.
In the end, the French army did not succeed in this coordinated attack.
