Scott Borgerson is an American businessman and fellow of the Council of Foreign Relations. He was the CEO of CargoMetrics[2], a data analytics, company which specialised in maritime trade. He resigned in 2020.[3]. He came into media attention following the revelation that he was the husband of Ghislaine Maxwell since 2016. He divorced Maxwell in 2021.

Early life

Scott Borgerson grew up in Missouri. His father was an official for the Marine infantry, and his mother was a high school French and Spanish teacher. His family was Presbyterian. He graduated from Tufts University with a Master of Arts in law and diplomacy, and a PhD in international relations.[4] [5]

Career

In 2010 Borgerson cofounded the company CargoMetrics with Rockford Weitz.[4] CargoMetrics tracked the movement of ships with data points, and recorded what they were carrying and where they were going. In 2013 Borgerson became the sole CEO of CargoMetrics. [1] In 2016 Cargometrics became a quant fund, which then became closed in 2018.[1] In 2020, Borgerson left the company, because he did not want his relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell to become a distraction.

CargoMetrics was valued at $100 million in 2016, and many backers of the company were billionaires, including Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google at the time. [5] Borgerson was also a fellow on the Council on Foreign Relations.[6]

Personal Life

Scott Borgerson was a former coast guard officer.[4]

Borgerson married Rebecca Anne Pioriunneck in 2001. They had two children together. He divorced Pioriunneck in 2014. [5]

In 2016 Borgerson married Ghislaine Maxwell. However, the public only learned of their relationship when preparing Maxwell's bail package. Ian Maxwell and other family and friends of Maxwell said they were unaware of the relationship. Maxwell and Borgerson divorced in 2021.[6]

In a statement to Judge Alison Nathan, the sentencing judge for Maxwell, he said that “…the Ghislaine I know is a wonderful and loving person”[5]
