Scott Kaufer is a television writer and producer. He has worked on a number of American television shows including Boston Legal, Gilmore Girls, and The X-Files. He was a former editor of the late California magazine and a former head of comedy programming at Warner Bros.

Early life[edit]

Kaufer began his career as a print journalist and was the former editor of the late California magazine.[1] After which, he was vice president of comedy development at Warner Bros.[2] and then later head of comedy programming at Warner Bros.[3]

Career[edit]

After starting his television writing career by writing freelance scripts for Murphy Brown in 1991, Kaufer wrote on many series including The Chris Isaak Show, Gilmore Girls, Beggars and Choosers, Arli$$ and The X-Files.[4]

In 2004, Kaufer worked with David E. Kelly as the executive producer of the ABC courtroom drama Boston Legal.[1]

In 2005, Kaufer signed a two-year, seven figure deal with Paramount TV to develop and produce new series that blended drama and comedy. He also served as the executive producer on the UPN drama South Beach.[4]

In 2011, Kaufer was set to write and executive produce a new drama series starring Miranda Lambert for ABC Family that would be based on Lambert's life story.[5]

Personal life[edit]

Kaufer’s brother, writer and director Jonathan Kaufer, died on October 2, 2013 in a car accident.[6]
