Scott Russell Surasky (born July 6, 1981) is an American neurologist, addiction medicine physician, and author who has worked in addiction treatment.
Education
Surasky graduated in 2009 from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Queens in 2010 and a residency in neurology at the North Shore–Long Island Jewish Health System in 2014. He is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in addiction medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.[1]
Career
In 2015, he was appointed medical director of Bridge Back to Life, a substance use treatment program in New York. In this role, he has focused on non-opioid treatment protocols and long-acting injectable therapies such as Vivitrol. These approaches have been adopted at addiction treatment sites and discussed in public health media.[2]
A 2020 article in the Long Island Press highlighted Surasky’s integration of chiropractic care with medication-assisted treatment, examining its potential to support neurological regulation in recovery.[3] He has also provided expert commentary on the opioid crisis in various media outlets.[4]
Surasky authored This Book Will Save Your Life: The New Medical Cure for Opioid Addiction, published by Post Hill Press and distributed by Simon & Schuster, which discusses emerging medical treatments for opioid addiction. The book includes a foreword by Drew Pinsky and a comment by his friend Cardinal Timothy Dolan.[5]
In November 2020, Surasky published "Telepsychiatry: A Life-Saving Solution" in Psychiatric Times, addressing the role of remote addiction and mental health treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic.[6]

Addiction and substance use
In May 2019, Surasky discussed the opioid crisis on Fox Business's Cavuto: Coast to Coast following the death of a Columbine survivor.[7] He also commented on national Adderall shortages and stimulant overuse risks on NewsNation.[8] In 2023, he was quoted in Fox News and the New York Post about cannabis use trends among young adults.[9][10]
Public health
