In Greek mythology the name Scythes refers to the son of Hercules and Echidna, who was from Scythia. His full brothers were Agathyrsus and Gelonus (the three were triplets). Leaving Scythia, Hercules left his bow behind with the order that whoever could draw its string was to become the country's king. This feat was only achieved by Scythes, who became king and whose name was given to the country.
