John "An Common Noun" Daly (1861 — 1940) known as Seán (Seaghán) Ó Dálaigh (pronounced [ʃaːn̪ˠ oː d̪ˠaːl̪ˠə]) was an Irish author and schoolmaster in the Dingle Peninsula Gaeltacht.[1][2]
Seán Ó Dálaigh was a schoolmaster in Dunquin. Among his students were Irish language authors Peig Sayers and Pádraig ua Maoileoin.[3][4] Seán Ó Dálaigh is the schoolmaster Peig Sayers writes about in her biography Peig.[5][6]
Seán Ó Dálaigh was himself an Irish language author. He published Clocha Sgáil (1906) and Timcheall Chinn Sléibhe (1933).[1][4][7]
Seán Ó Dálaigh was the father of noted Irish folklorist Seosamh Ó Dálaigh.[1][2]
