Sean McArdle is a filmmaker and an Eisner Award nominated American comic book writer, known for his work as the writer of The Führer and the Tramp [1] and artist of Tales of the Starlight Drive-In [2] and Phantom Jack: The Nowhere Man Agenda.

Early life[edit]

Sean McArdle was born November 18, 1975 in Dennison, Ohio. As a child, he developed an affinity for telling stories, and he enjoyed reading comic books and newspaper strips, particularly The Amazing Spiderman and Calvin & Hobbes. After graduating from Minerva High School in 1994, McArdle began studying art at Kent State University. Dissuaded by his professors from entertaining a career in comic books, he instead finished with a degree in Visual Communication Design.[3][4]

Career[edit]

While working at several advertising agencies in Northeast Ohio, McArdle started in the comics industry by working for smaller publishers including Image Comics and IDW Publishing. His first creator-owned work, The Führer and the Tramp, earned him an Eisner nomination in 2019.[5]

In 2020, McArdle filmed the music video, Try by American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis.[6]

Personal life[edit]

McArdle currently teaches at Kent State University and lives in Canton, Ohio with his two daughters.[7]
