History[edit]

The SecureDrive brand was established in 2018[2] with a line of portable external and USB flash storage drives designed to provide a cold-storage solution for individuals and organizations that need to maintain compliance with specific federal or international regulations for the protection of sensitive or private information, including protected health information and personally identifiable information.[3]

SecureDrive introduced the SecureDrive KP, SecureDrive BT, SecureUSB KP, and SecureUSB BT product lines in 2018. Each of these drives feature FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validation[4][5][6][7] and 256-bit hardware-based Advanced Encryption Standard protection.[8][9] SecureDrive and SecureUSB storage devices can be used with macOS, Windows, and Linux operating systems.[10] SecureDrive BT and SecureUSB BT devices authenticate with a mobile phone app and Bluetooth connection. The companion app is available for both iOS and Android smartphone and mobile devices.[11][12]

SecureData, Inc. also developed an optional Remote Management (RM) Console,[8][13] a subscription software service that provides additional data security features for SecureDrive BT and SecureUSB BT devices. A second subscription software, SecureGuard USB, can be accessed within the RM Console to enable USB port-blocking data loss prevention.

Product lines[edit]

SecureDrive manufactures two principal storage drive product lines, as well as Software as a Service (SaaS) applications for remote drive management and USB port blocking.

SecureDrive KP[edit]

The SecureDrive KP is an external portable storage device (HDD or SSD) that users access via an on-board keypad and personal identification number.[14] KP drives feature 256-bit hardware-based Advanced Encryption Standard protection[15] and have been FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.[4]

SecureDrive BT[edit]

The SecureDrive BT is an external portable storage device (HDD or SSD) that users access via a smartphone app and Bluetooth connection.[8] Biometric security features on smartphones can also be configured for use in accessing the drive.[16] BT drives feature 256-bit hardware-based Advanced Encryption Standard protection and have been FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.[5]

BT drives work in tandem with SecureDrive’s Remote Management (RM) Console,[17] a subscription software service that allows IT administrators to manage drive settings and accessibility remotely.

SecureUSB KP[edit]

The SecureUSB KP is a USB flash drive that users access via an on-board keypad and personal identification number.[18] KP USB flash drives feature 256-bit hardware-based Advanced Encryption Standard protection[19] and have been FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.[20] KP flash drives feature storage capacities of 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB.

SecureUSB BT[edit]

The SecureDrive BT is a USB flash drive that users access via a smartphone app and Bluetooth connection.[21] Biometric security features on smartphones can also be configured for use in accessing the drive.[22] BT USB flash drives feature 256-bit hardware-based Advanced Encryption Standard protection and have been FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.[7] BT USB flash drives feature storage capacities of 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB.

BT USB flash drives work in tandem with SecureDrive’s Remote Management (RM) Console,[23] a subscription software service that allows IT administrators to manage drive settings and accessibility remotely.

Remote Management (RM) Console[edit]

The Remote Management (RM) Console is a subscription software service that provides IT administrators centralized and remote control over access to any SecureDrive BT or SecureUSB BT device.[8]

A Remote Management license enables users to limit drive access to a specific time or location,[24] remotely unlock or reset a drive password,[16] remotely wipe or disable drive access,[10] and track and manage multiple drives on one user or administrator account.[8]

SecureGuard USB[edit]

SecureGuard USB is a subscription software service accessible within the Remote Management (RM) Console that provides always-on endpoint protection for computer networks by limiting access only to authorized Human Interface Devices (HID) and USB devices.[25][26] SecureGuard enables users to globally restrict or allow specific USB devices, block access to computers when unauthorized devices are connected, and prevent ransomware and other types of malware from entering via unauthorized USB devices.

Security certifications[edit]

SecureDrive KP/BT and SecureUSB KP/BT portable external and USB flash drives feature 256-bit hardware-based Advanced Encryption Standard protection[27][28][29][30] and are FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.[4][5][6][7]
