Segamat Central[edit]

This is a mall in Segamat which opened in 2012 as the only mall in the district.

History[edit]

1 Segamat was officially opened on 15 December 2011. One Segamat was originally built in the late 1990s simultaneously with the Segamat Integrated Public Transport Terminal, but under the name The Segamat Summit . However, the economic downturn has caused the construction of the shopping complex to be abandoned even though the Segamat Integrated Public Transport Terminal started operating in 2001. After being abandoned for so long, the construction project of the three-storey shopping complex was resumed under the name One Segamat as a result of a joint venture between Segamat District Council with a local developer company. The construction of One Segamat was fully completed in 2011. When it opened, it had aN Econsave and a few well-known tenants like Popular and Aeon Wellness. Then it changed into UO superstore. It attracted a large crowd in its early days as it was near to the bus station and the KTM station named Segamat station. The mall saw a drop of sales when a few tenants started to move out. It was then sold to Hektar properties and was refurbished. UO superstore left and was replaces by TF supermarket and many major stores were changed. In 2020, the mall's occupancy decreased even more resulting in lesser shoppers.

Attraction[edit]

The main attraction of One Segamat is the Lotus Five Star cinema complex which has eight screening halls and can accommodate up to 1,703 people in total. The opening of the Lotus Five Star cinema complex in One Segamat ended the 11 -year wait of Segamat residents after the last cinema in Segamat, the Cathay Segamat cinema, closed in 2000
