Seileag or An t-Seileag is the loch monster which is said to inhabit Loch Shiel in Scotland.[1] The name may be a pun on Seile (Loch Shiel) and sìolag, a term for slender fish and eels in Scottish Gaelic.[citation needed]
In Hebridean folklore the Seileag was a very large eel, not the same as the Each-uisge, that lived in the sea but would on occasion enter lochs. It ate grass on the shore but was particularly fond of devouring women and children.[2]
