Seitaro Yamazaki (山崎晴太郎, Seitarō Yamazaki, August 14, 1982) is a Japanese designer, businessman, TV news commentator and conceptual artist.

Biography[edit]

Yamazaki has been involved in stage theatre since childhood and wanted to be an actor until high school. However, his interests soon expanded to photography, dance, video jockeying, and graphic design. Yamazaki studied sociology and photography at College of Sociology of Rikkyo University and even spent time abroad at the New York Film Academy for 10 months to hone his skills..[1][2][3]

2 years after completing his education at Rikkyo University, Yamazaki established Seitaro Design, his own design company, where he dabbled in graphic design, spatial design, product design, and promotional video production. Alongside his work in the design field, he studied Japanese architecture, ink wash painting, and ikebana.[4]

In 2014, he took on the role of Director at JMC, a company specializing in casting and 3D printing, which later went public in 2016[5][6]. In the same year, Yamazaki received Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree at Kyoto University of Art and Design.[7]

In 2017, Yamazaki involved in some spatial design projects such as the Uan Kanazawa project for Solare Hotels and Resorts[8] and the renovation of the "Former Nara Prison," a significant cultural property in Japan[9]. He also hosted a regular radio program on FM Yokohama during the same period[10].

The year 2018 marked another milestone as Yamazaki became the Creative Advisor for the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.[11]. Additionally, he founded PLUGO, an EV charging equipment manufacturing company, where he assumed the role of Chief Design Officer[12][13]. He also started working as a conceptual artist this year[14].

In 2022, he signed a contract with a talent agent in Tokyo Watanabe Productions, and started to work as a TV news commentator.[15][16].Also, he embarked on a collaboration with the Japanese government's Ministry of Justice, initiating a design and branding training program for inmates[17].

In 2023, Yamazaki added remarkable achievement to his career of the conceptual artist with a commissioned installation for Mitsubishi Estate.[18]

Throughout his career, Yamazaki has received several notable awards. He garnered recognition with the Japanese Good Design Award in 2013[19], 2014[20], and 2018[21], C-IDEA Gold Award in 2020 for the Uan Kanazawa project[22][23], as well as the 14th Arte Laguna Prize ARTIST IN RESIDENCE WINNER[24]. In 2021, he received an Honorable Mention in the International Design Awards[25] and secured the second-place position in the YICCA Contest[26].

Yamazaki is also known as automotive enthusiast and watch collector. Recently he owns Jaguar XJS, Mercedes G class[27], Patek Philippe, Cartier, Lemania, IWC, Omega, Issei Miyake[28]
