The company was started by Konrad Sekkingstad in 1923. It started with fishing boats and trading lobster and wild salmon bought from local fishermen, then fisheries, fish farming and today a leading international seafood trading company of Norwegian Salmon (Atlantic salmon) and fjord trout.
The company consists of two trading companies, Sekkingstad AS and Skagerak Salmon AS, and two processing plants, Fjord Processing AS (H112) and Skagerak Processing AS.
Sekkingstad AS is family owned and has been run by the Sekkingstad family through generations. It is now owned and run by Bård Sekkingstad, who is third generation.
Historical milestones:

- 1953, Sekkingstad starts import and export of seafood.
- 1968, Sekkingstad starts farming salmon and trout.
- 1989, H112 aquired
- 1999, Sekkingstad awarded as “Salmon exporter of the year”
