SelectBlinds.com is an e-commerce retailer of independently branded, custom-made, and ready-to-install window blinds, and other window treatments (window coverings), including window shades, curtains, exterior shades, and window shutters. Select Blinds, which is based in Tempe, Arizona, currently employs over 100 people.

SelectBlinds.com was founded in June 2003 by American entrepreneur Rick Steele.[1] Steele[2], as Chief Marketing Officer for SelectBlinds.com, has made a reputation for himself as an innovative marketer, businessman, and problem-solver.[3]

Al Silverberg[4] joined Select Blinds in August of 2005 as Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Select Blinds, Silverberg held the position of CEO for Uniden America.

Timeline Highlights[edit]

2007[edit]

Select Blinds ranked on the Inc. 500 "America's Fastest Growing Private Companies" list, landing the No. 373 spot in 2007.

2008[edit]

In 2008 Select Blinds ranked at No. 287 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, thanks to a 33% growth in sales. The company's growth has often been credited to partnered brand marketing efforts developed and nurtured by Steele. Select Blinds products have been featured on popular television shows and networks, including ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” FOX Network’s “Home Free,” NBC’s “American Dream Builders,” Bravo Network’s “Top Design,” Netflix, Home & Garden Television (HGTV), and the Discovery Channel.

2009[edit]

Select Blinds appeared on the Inc. 5000 “Fastest-Growing Companies in America” list in 2009, (coming in at No. 815) with a three-year growth rate of 362 percent.

2015[edit]

Select Blinds announced a "free cord cleats" initiative, for customers and non-customers alike. In turn, the company donated more than 82,000 window blind/shade cord cleats to families with children. Cord cleats are metal or plastic safety devices that attach to the inside of a window frame. They allow a user to wrap/tie down a loose window covering cord to prevent its being left dangling and accessible to children or pets.

2016[edit]

To recognize Selectblinds.com’s stance to make all its products available with a cordless lift system, Steele was given the 2016 Humanitarian Award from Harvard Business School’s Business Expert Forum.

2021[edit]

The New York Times' Wirecutter has reviewed Select Blinds' Classic Cordless Blackout Shades as "The Best Blackout Shades of 2021."[5]

Innovation[edit]

Select Blinds was the first window treatments company to make all of their products available with cordless lift. The online retailer is also considered one of the pioneers in popularizing the use of online customer reviews[6] as a marketing driver.
