Selim Birsel[edit]
Selim Birsel (born June 14, 1963) is a Turkish artist who lives and works between Istanbul and Volissos. His works range from drawing, painting, installation, photography, video, performance to public interventions. He incorporates unconventional materials such as dust, stamps, spices and found objects in his work. He is represented by Öktem Aykut in Istanbul.[1]
He teaches Art Studios in the undergraduate and masters Visual Art program at Sabancı University. [2] He is a directing member of BJCEM since 1999. [3]
Birsel's works are a part of the collections of Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Santral Istanbul, Vehbi Koç Contemporary Art Foundation, Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Foundation and Istanbul Modern. [4] He was a part of the 3rd International Istanbul Biennial. [5]
Early life and education[edit]
Birsel studied at the Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Grenoble in 1991 and at the Institut des Hautes Etudes en Art Plastiques in Paris with Pontus Hulten, Sarkis, Daniel Buren and Serge Fauchereau as part of Session II, 1990.
