Senait Fisseha

Professor Senait Fisseha is a physician and lawyer by training, she is an adjunct Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Michigan and serves as the Director of International Programs at Susan T. Buffett Foundation.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Dr. Fisseha was born and raised in Ethiopia.[1]. Dr.Fisseha left Ethiopia at a younger age for the US in 1989 and earned an undergraduate degree from Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois and a combined medical(MD) and law (JD) degrees from Southern Illinois University with induction to Alpha Omega Alpha.[1]

University of Michigan[edit]

Dr. Fisseha start working in the University of Michigan and she rose to become Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and then Medical Director at the Center for Reproductive Medicine (CRM).[2]. She also served on the American society of Reproductive Medicine Ethics board that wrote and publish guidelines that tackle complex ethical, legal and societal issues that affect human reproduction.

Center for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT)[edit]

Dr Fisseha is the founding director of the Center for International Reproductive Health Training (CIRHT) at the University of Michigan which train health professionals to provide reproductive health care that empowers girls and women to shape their lives and determine their futures [3]. She led the partnership of the University of Michigan with St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College and the Federal Ministry of Health in Ethiopia that led to the first renal transplant program in Ethiopia.

Election of the first African Director General of WHO[edit]

Tedros Adhanom was elected as the first African Director General of WHO on May 23, 2017 [4]. Dr Fisseha was his campaign manager [5]. She also later led his transition team and continued as his chief advisor [6].

Personal life[edit]

Dr Fisseha is married and she has four children [7]
