Senator Marafa Bashir Abba is a Nigerian politician, banker, and public administrator from Nguroje, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria. He currently serves as a Federal Commissioner at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.[1]

Early life and education Marafa Bashir Abba was born in Nguroje, Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, into the family of Mallam Abba Nguroje, one of the founding figures of the Nguroje community.[2]

He attended Central Primary School, Nguroje, and proceeded to Government Day Secondary School, Jada, where he obtained his Senior Secondary Certificate.[3] He later earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Accountancy through distance learning from the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola (formerly Federal University of Technology, Yola).[4]

Career Marafa began his professional career with the United Bank for Africa (UBA), where he acquired extensive experience in banking, finance, and administration before joining politics.[5]

Political career He began his political career in the early 2000s and was elected as a Member of the Taraba State House of Assembly, representing the Nguroje Constituency from 2003 to 2011.[6] During his tenure, he served as the Deputy Speaker of the House between 2005 and 2011.[7]

Following his legislative service, he contested for the Taraba Central Senatorial seat, where he emerged as the runner-up in the party primaries.[8] He was later appointed as the Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to the Taraba State Government under the late Governor Danbaba Suntai.[9]

Marafa also served as the Chairman of the Taraba State Tourism Board, where he contributed to promoting tourism and cultural development in the state.[10]

In 2014, he resigned from his advisory position to contest again for the Senatorial seat of Taraba Central, where he served briefly in the Nigerian Senate for six months.[11]

Recent appointment In recognition of his public service and administrative experience, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Marafa Bashir Abba as a Federal Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).[12] He continues to play a vital role in fiscal management and national development.[13]
