The Expat (French: L'expatrié) was the first concert residency by American singer-actress Monica Vinco at Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, France. Launched in support of her sixth studio album, 2/5 (2027), the 25-date residency commenced on June 4, 2027, and continued its run until August 8 of the same year.
The residency was announced on February 21, sponsored by HBO and French concert promoter Inter Concerts. Conceived as a "love letter" to Paris, the show was conceptualized around French culture and cinema, the works of James Baldwin, and neo-noir thrillers. Each 3.5 concert took place on a pyramidal, in-the-round stage, resembling the Louvre. The extensive setlist featured nearly forty songs, comprised of tracks from Vinco's discography and cover songs by French acts or influenced by France. The Expat was critically acclaimed for its visuals, choreography, wardrobe, production design, cultural references, and Vinco's showmanship.
The Expat incited a media frenzy, entitled "Vincomanie" by the French press, around the singer's career and series Manic and opened discussions on France–United States relations and asylum in France. It was also a commercial success with a revenue of $109 million, boosting the French economy for throughout the months of November and December. On October 1, 2027, Vinco released a live album—entitled Monica Vinco Presents: The Expat—and a concert special of the same name was broadcast on HBO. On December 31, all of Vinco's past concert films received live album releases.
Background and development
In the summer of 2025, Vinco had taken up residence alongside The Rive Gauche in Paris, France; later selling her estate in Glendale, California, and moving to the city full-time by early 2026. Throughout 2026, Vinco filmed the third season of One of the Boys and began writing on the fourth, filmed her scenes in The Batman: Part II, and had been casted in a remake of Fatal Attraction (1987). The singer announced her sixth studio album 2/5 on January 4, 2027, succeeded by the release of its lead single, “Loverboy”. On February 21, Vinco stated, due to her busy filming schedule, she could not provide a full-scale tour, and, instead, decided to take the opportunity to "thank Paris for welcoming her with open arms" with a twenty-five-date residency at Plentiude Arena in Nanterre. The presale took place on February 25, 2027, with the general sale taking place February 28. The extensive run became the longest concert series at the stadium for a single year, breaking Celine Dion's sixteen-date from the previous year. Following the residency, Vinco would go onto film Fatal Attraction.
