From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki
In ancient times only kings used a title, but when the Brahmins under the leadership of Parshuram began to become kings, a royal Brahmin society was formed and they used the title Sensharma. Historian Bherumal Meharchand Advani explains the starting of using a Brahmin surname. According to Vabisya Purana, Sensharma or Sharma is the first Brahmin surname. Parshuram gave this title to king Jaisen.[1]
