Septendecimal, base 17, or rarely base XVII, sits in the line between hexadecimal and octodecimal. Septendecimal, being comprised of eighteen numeric symbols, is a peculiar numeral system along with a few other contenders for the weirdest numeral system: vigesimal and senary.

The septendecimal base requires eighteen symbols: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.

Theorized origin of septendecimal

It is possible that septendecimal was created by fusing septenary and decimal. They possibly took the "ary" out of "septenary," then made "decimal" the suffix, and thus, septendecimal was born.
