The Serbian Derby is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually in Belgrade, Serbia. It is the most prestigious horse race in the country for three-year-old Thoroughbreds.
History
The Serbian Derby is the most prestigious flat horse race in Serbia, traditionally contested by three‑year‑old thoroughbreds over a distance of 2,400 metres on the turf of the Belgrade Hippodrome near Careva Ćuprija. The event traces its origins to the early 20th century, with the first Serbian Derby held in the Banjica neighbourhood. The modern tradition was established in 1921, when the inaugural gallop Derby and the Belgrade City Race were held on the newly established permanent racetrack, later known as the Belgrade Hippodrome.
