Serdar Celik (born 1979) is a professor and engineer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.[1]. He is the founding Chairman of Ilgaz Energy Symposium[2] and SIUE Energy Symposium[3]. He was recognized as the Paul Simon Outstanding Teacher-Scholar in 2018[4]
Biography[edit]
After graduating from Eyuboglu High School, Serdar Celik received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Yildiz Technical University (2001), M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University (2003), and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Processes (2007) from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. In the same year, he started serving as a faculty at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he continues his teaching and research studies.
Career[edit]
Serdar Celik started working in the family business on heating and ventilating systems with practices in both manufacturing and sales. After getting his B.S. degree, he worked for a certified distributor and servicer of Carrier Corp. as a field engineer. In 2002, he joined Arçelik as an R&D Engineer and worked on the development of environmentally-friendly refrigeration systems until starting his Ph.D. studies in 2004. After completing his doctoral study, Celik joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2007, and has been serving as a faculty since then. His research at SIUE focuses on solar energy, environmentally-friendly air-conditioning systems, green roofs, and building energy efficiency. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal and conference proceedings, and three book chapters. He has one patent on Stirling refrigeration[5] and another one on magnetic refrigeration[6]. He is a member of ASHRAE, Green Roof Environmental Evaluation Network (G..R.E.E.N.), and Young Professionals in Energy.
