Serdar Karagöz, Turkish journalist, political scientist, media manager and the founder of Daily Sabah. Currently he is the Deputy Director-General in charge of International Broadcasting of Turkish Radio and Televison Corporation (TRT).[1]

Life[edit]

He was born on May 25, 1981 in Sakarya. Completing his primary, secondary and high school education in Istanbul, Karagöz took his university education in the Department of Political Science at Istanbul Bilgi University. By establishing the Social Sciences Club within the university, he organized various seminars and workshops. After his undergraduate education, he obtained his master's degree on Human Rights Law at the same university.[2]

In the following years, he took another master's degree in Media Studies at The New School University in New York. After that, he started working for The New York Times. The experiences he had in the field of international journalism at The New York Times have been the base of his future career he was to build in Turkey.

Career[edit]

Serdar Karagöz started his career in 2005 by consulting various projects within the European Union funds. He worked as project coordinator, general secretary and manager in many EU projects.

He joined the Turkuvaz Media Group in 2008 as a Management Trainee (MT).

Karagöz, who moved to the USA in 2010, started to work in the syndication department of The New York Times after completing his graduate education there.

Between 2012-2014, he worked as A Haber United Nations Diplomacy Correspondent and also started to write articles on the US agenda in Sabah.

Following his television and newspaper experiences, he also established the digital news platform USA Sabah.

Then he was appointed as the Director of Foreign News and Foreign Publications of Sabah in October 2013.[3]

In February 2014, he published his first issue as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of Daily Sabah.[4]

In 2018, he was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of TRT International News Channels, which includes TRT World and TRT Arabi.[5]

Serdar Karagöz, who was appointed as the Deputy Director-General in charge of International Broadcasting of TRT at the beginning of 2020, still holds this position.[6]
