Early Life[edit | edit source]

Born in Moscow, Petrossov relocated to the United States with his family at the age of four. He initially resided in California before moving to Colorado, where he spent most of his childhood. During his teenage years, his family moved to Florida, where he continues to live today.

After graduating from high school, Petrossov studied finance at the University of Florida. He graduated in 2009. While working toward his degree, he co-founded his first IT company.

Career[edit | edit source]

Early Professional Life

Petrossov's entrepreneurial endeavors began during college when he co-founded a professional chat service known as LiveChat. LiveChat integrated audio and video features for enhanced customer support. This initial venture provided him with substantial IT experience, which inspired him to explore other tech business opportunities. He also gained valuable professional connections, which he relied on for his future startups. Petrossov held the position of Vice President of Business Development at LiveChat from May 2006 until April 2009.

His second startup business, Federal System of Distance Education, provides a distance learning structure for Russian-speaking schools. While working with this business, he frequently flew on private jets and gained profound experience as a customer in the industry. He was also an advisory board member for a Florida-based private jet company at the time. This personal and professional experience provided the inspiration needed for his next business project.

Petrossov's most successful entrepreneurial endeavor to date is JetSmarter, which is often called the Uber of private jet travel. His experience as a passenger on private jets inspired him to innovate a change to what he viewed as an archaic industry. Petrossov noticed that many private jets were not fully utilized, which created inefficiency and underutilized resources. He also realized that the booking process was frustratingly outdated. He applied his entrepreneurial and technological expertise to create a mobile platform for private jet booking, which became JetSmarter. This mobile platform brought much-needed modernization that benefited passengers and operators alike.

Petrossov connected with numerous experts, developers, and vendors with whom he had worked at his previous tech startups as he created a beta version of the JetSmarter app. He released the beta version in November 2012 to a select group of frequent private jet flyers. By March 2013, the app was available and in high demand in markets around the world. JetSmarter's investors include numerous members of the Saudi Royal Family and Jay-Z.

Today, JetSmarter has approximately 15,000 members. Membership fees range between $5,000 and $15,000 per year, and members can choose between arranging a private charter or booking a flight on an existing flight. The company currently maintains relationships with more than 800 carriers and has more than 3,200 active aircraft available for service through these carriers. JetSmarter operates in 170 countries, and its services are regularly expanding. Private helicopter service is available in select markets as well. Currently, the company is the largest online service provider in the private travel industry and has a valuation of more than $1.5 billion.

JetSmarter appeals to elite and business travelers alike, but its goal is to make private air travel more accessible and convenient to all frequent travelers. One way that travelers can take advantage of the benefits of private jet travel affordably is by using the app to search for empty seats on existing flights. With Petrossov's broad vision for his company and market expansion, the potential for future growth and profitability is substantial.

The company's headquarters are in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They have additional offices in Dubai, Zurich, Riyadh, London, and Moscow.

Honors and Achievements

In 2016, Petrossov was named in the Forbes "30 Under 30: Consumer Tech" list. The Sun-Sentinel also honored him as South Florida's "Top Working Professional."
