Sergio Rodríguez López-Ros (born 21 November 1970) is an academician and diplomat from Spain, currently Pro-Rector of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU of Barcelona..[1]

Education[edit]

Rodríguez was born in Barcelona, in a family coming from Portugal but settled in Spain since the XVIII century.[2] He has one son.

He was educated at the Salesian College of Sarrià[3], founded in 1882. Later he graduated in Communication at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and took a specialized course at the Menéndez Pelayo International University. After a doctoral course with Román Gubern, he received the PhD at the Ramon Llull University, with a doctoral court chaired by Artur Juncosa . on the Philosophical approach to the identity of people of gypsy culture][4]

He did his military service in the Spanish Arapiles Regiment and in the Major State of the IV Military Region, receiving the Distinguished Service Diploma, and an completed an internship in the organizing committee for the Games of the XXV Olympiad, celebrated in 1992.

Career[edit]

In the Spanish Foreign Service he has been under destination in the Spanish embassies to Italy, San Marino, Albania and Malta, as well as director of two centres of the Instituto Cervantes (temporary coordinator of another)[5], and vice-consul of Spain in Milano. He has been also coordinator of the House for a City of Knowledge within the City Council of Barcelona.

Previously and later he has been consultant of the EU bodies EACEA[6], TAIEX and REA, as well as member of researches for the European Council and the European Parliament. He participated in one of the feasibility reports of the FRA and in the forums of the Holy See, the EPSC, the Aspen Institute, the COMECE, the Club of Rome and the OMAEC (World Organisation of Former Pupils of Catholic Education).

Rodríguez was the architect of the bilateral agreements on the Instituto Cervantes between the Kingdom of Spain and the Holy See[7], Italy[8], San Marino[9] and the Sovereign Order of Malta[10], as well as the opening of a Spanish centre in Albania.[11] He collaborated in 2000 in the search of Roma people in Spain to be compensated by the Swiss Banking Council for been forcibly employed by companies during Nazism and also in the protection of Roma families from Kosovo who had taken refuge on the Greek border. He also contributed to the transfer from Spain to the Netherlands of the Command Baton of William I of Orange[12]

Rodriguez is now also ambassador-consultant of the Fundação Rei Afonso Henriques[13] of public cooperation Spain-Portugal and member of the Advisory Council on International of Foment Nacional del Treball (CEOE), the Advisory Council of the Fundación Pere Closa[14] and the Scientific Committee of the public magazine Mediterráneo[15]

He has also participated in some researches, both in public and private universities around Europe, in particular dealing with intercultural and inter religious dialogue, among those in the GRIC (Groupe de Recherche Islamo-Chretien, settled in Paris)[16]. In this sense, he has been involved in the design of inclusion policies in the European Union and the involvement of minorities into European societies. He is indeed one of the major experts in Roma people in Europe.

Rodriguez is also considered an expert on cultural diplomacy, multilateral processes, Mediterranean issues, ethics and Artificial Intelligence, so as to ethic investments, traceability, governance, transparency and sustainability.

Author of several essay and history books[17][18] (the last one entries for the dictionary "Vislumbres", 2021, edited by the Spanish Foreign Office), he is correspondent fellow of the Royal Academy of History[19] (Spain) and also of the Academy of Sciences of Bologna[20] (Italy). He has been distinguished with some public decorations, both national and international, among others the rarely conceded Order of the Social Solidarity[21] awarded by King Felipe VI of Spain. �
