Serrala Group GmbH (stylized as Serrala) is a German multinational financial technology company headquartered in Hamburg. The company operates 13 offices across the UK, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, North America, and India. It develops software for working capital optimization through the automation of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payments, and treasury management processes, including in-house banking, intercompany accounting, and liquidity pooling.[1]
History
Serrala was founded in 1984 as Hanse Orga GmbH by Hans Herbert Lindemann.[2] For most of its history, the company operated as a family-owned business, with Lindemann’s son Sven succeeding him as CEO in 2012.[3]
In 2016, Waterland Private Equity acquired a majority stake in Hanse Orga Group,[4] and in 2021 sold most of this stake to global software investor Hg.[5]
The company rebranded as Serrala Group GmbH in 2018 as part of an expansion and M&A program.[6] In 2022, Sven Lindemann stepped down and the company hired Hartmut Wagner as CEO.[7] In 2023, Wagner was succeeded by then-CFO Dr. Axel Rebien.[8] The Lindemann family continues to hold a significant minority stake in the company alongside Waterland.[9]
Commercial history
In 1985, the company launched its first product, Moneta, a treasury, cash, and liquidity management platform, followed in 1994 by AutoBank, an automation solution for general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable postings.[10]
In 1999, Hanse Orga developed the SAP Liquidity Planner, and in 2000 integrated both Moneta and AutoBank within the SAP framework. Subsequent SAP-embedded solutions included IPC Navigator and ebXchange (2007), EbXGlobal (2009), and the SAP Treasury Workstation (2010).[10]
From 2011, all products were consolidated under the FinanceSuite family, expanded with the addition of electronic bank account management (FS eBAM) following the acquisition of COGON in 2012,[11] [12] and with FS Working Capital Management in 2014.[10] In 2015, the FinanceSuite range evolved into FS², a next-generation product portfolio certified for SAP S/4HANA.[13]
Expansion, investment, and acquisitions
Beginning in 2004, Hanse Orga Group expanded across Europe, establishing subsidiaries in France (2005), the Netherlands (2006), and the UK and Scandinavia (2008). In 2012, the company created SymQ to provide specialist consulting services in SAP Treasury.[14]
Following Waterland Capital's 50% investment in 2016, Hanse Orga initiated a series of acquisitions, starting with SOPLEX Consult in November 2016,[15] and three further acquisitions in May 2017: Dolphin Enterprise Solutions, Tembit Software, and e5 Solutions Group.[16]
Rebranding, consolidation, and later acquisitions
On 5 June 2018, Hanse Orga Group rebranded as Serrala Group at the SAP SAPPHIRE conference in Orlando. The new name was intended to unify the group’s seven brands and convey a focus on “clarity and simplicity” in finance operations.[17]
Post-rebrand acquisitions have included AcceptEasy (2020), expanding capabilities in electronic bill presentment and payments,[18] and Payference (2024), a cloud-based AR automation platform.[19]
As of 2025, Serrala serves 2,800 customers, including 25% of S&P 500 companies.[1] Industry research authorities such as the Hackett Group and the QKS Group recently recognized the company as a leader in the finance automation market.[20][21]
Products and services
In 2018, Serrala emphasized cloud-based product development, including its Alevate product family for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payments automation.[22] Since 2024, the company has stated it is integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning across all products.[23]
In 2025, Serrala launched the Serrala Finance Platform, integrating all solutions into a single interface known as the “Serrala Hub”. The platform incorporates AI across operational workflows and offers integrations, managed services, and add-ons.[24]
