Settle Group is a Norwegian financial technology company which operates a digital wallet for users and a payment gateway for merchants based on cashless and cardless transactions.

The service is available in 28 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Finland, France, Croatia, Czech Republic and Sweden.

The mobile app is free to use by users and charges merchants a small fee for incoming transactions aiming to compete with POS terminal operated electronic payments. Payments can be initiated by a QR-code.

History[edit]

The company is a successor of Auka which was founded by fintech pioneer Daniel Döderlein in 2010. It was renamed in 2020 to promote its plans to expand to more European markets.[1].

Döderlein also co-founded mCASH, which was in 2015 acquired by SpareBank1[2] to be later integrated with other similar services into Norway’s leading mobile payment app Vipps [3].

Settle established locally financed subsidiaries in Croatia in February 2020[4], in Cyprus in November 2020[5] and in Bulgaria in March 2021[6] with total investment of NOK 35 million[7].

In April 2021 Settle Group partnered with Currencycloud to provide foreign exchange and international payments[8]
