Shabaash Mithu, also known as Zindabaad by its working title, is an upcoming Hindi-language biographical sports film directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Ajit Andhare under the banner of Viacom18 Studios. It stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role.[1] It is based on Indian women's national cricket team's captain Mithali Raj.[2]
Shabaash Mithu is scheduled for release on 5 November 2021.[3]
Rahul Dholakia was set to direct this film.[4][5] But on June 2021, Srijit Mukherji was replaced Dholakia.[6][7] Bollywood Hungama reported that Dholakia was keen on directing the film. But there were some creative differences that cropped up between Dholakia and Pannu. In fact, Pannu wasn't happy with the narrative that Dholakia shared and expressed the same.[8][9]

Character selection[edit]
On December 2019, Taapsee Pannu was selected for casting Mithali Raj's role,[14] on August 2021, Gultesham was selected for casting a male cricketer's role[15][16] and on July 2021, Sampa Mandal was selected for casting Neetu David's role.[17]
First look[edit]
The first look of the film was held on 29 January 2020.[18][19] Pannu posted the first look poster and release date on her Instagram account.[20][21]
Shooting[edit]
The film's shooting was scheduled to begin on July 2020 and Filmfare reported that after COVID-19 restriction, the shooting would again to be started.[23][24] But due to COVID-19 pandemic, the date was pushed back to April 2021.[25] But the date was again postponed due to the same reason.[26] Filmibeat reported that the shooting will start soon.[27]
Release[edit]
The film was scheduled for release on 2 February 2021 said Taapsee Pannu on the first look on her Instagram account.[28][29][30] But due to COVID-19 pandemic, the date was pushed back to 5 November 2021.
Criticism[edit]
The Times of India reported, "Rumour has it that Rahul Dholakia was supposed to start Shabaash Mithu in Mumbai but has now decided that he would rather go to Hyderabad with his cast and crew for the same."[26]
