Shaboozey
Collins Chibueze or "Shaboozey" (born May 9, 1995) is an American musician, whose music is focused on blending multiple genres such as hip hop, 80s rock, Afro-beat, and jazz.[1][2]
Personal Life[edit]
Collins Chibueze was born on May 9, 1995 in Northern Virginia, USA. He is the son to Nigerian parents, who enrolled him in a Nigerian boarding school during his junior high years.[2] While attending this school, Shaboozey was able to learn about his cultural background and the musical styles that came along with it.[2] After junior high, Shaboozey returned to the United States to finish his education at Gar-field High School in Woodbridge, VA.
Career[edit]
It is unclear when exactly Shaboozey started taking an interest in music. He did, however, release some of his early music onto Soundcloud, as well as Apple Music and Spotify.[1] His earliest song that is currently available on music streaming apps is from 2014. His most popular hit, "Winning Streak" (released in 2017), has surpassed 10 million plays on Spotify, while it blends alternative rap, hip-hop, and even rock.[3] "Winning Streak" is just one of the songs off of "Lady Wrangler," Shaboozey's debut album (released in 2018), which contains 11 tracks.[3]
In 2017, Shaboozey performed at the Day N' Night festival in Orange County, California, with only three released songs at the time.[4] In 2018, Shaboozey was featured on the 2018 soundtrack from the film Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. His song on this album was titled "Start a Riot" and he collaborated with Duckwrth on this track.[3] Currently, "Start a Riot" has accumulated nearly 50 million plays on Spotify.
