Shady Hosam El Din Morsi (born February 9, 1999) is a Dutch politician from Zoetermeer who is serving as a member of the DWARS commission of education. As a Member of the education commission, he advocates for better quality of education. Morsi is also an Advisor for the GreenLeft caucus in the municipal council, and is endorsed by the entire left wing of Zoetermeer, earning him the nickname "The Spokesperson of the left". A staunch left-wing libertarian, Morsi proposed the reformation of the commission system where civilians are allowed to be commissioners. Morsi is also a candidate for mayor of Zoetermeer in 2020 [1]
Interested in politics since he was 11 years old, he ran for city council in Oegstgeest in 2014 as an independent. Although he was ineligible (he was 15 years old at the time, was not on the ballot and did not live in Oegstgeest), he actively campaigned. Morsi's slogan was "Are you fucking tired of politicians, write in Shady Morsi". He got 90 write-in votes and finished 8th with 90 votes, but was declared invalid due to the Dutch system not recognizing write-in votes. Only 27 votes separated Morsi from the ballot-registered libertarian Lukas Tjeima. Four years later, he ran as Lijstduwer for Direct Democracy[2] and got 13 votes, and he finished third in the Labour primary election for leader. Before joining GreenLeft and becoming Advisor to the GreenLeft caucus, on 10 September he became a commission member of education for DWARS.
Morsi is, besides politics, a Special Education teachers assistant, a newspaper writer for the Free Socialist Newspaper,[3] a money collector, an aquarist and a gamer. He is interested in politics, military, geography and history. Morsi also used to be a radio host for his own radio station Rave AM until its dissolution. Morsi is Egyptian while being 1/32 Turkish, and holds both Dutch and Egyptian citizenship. Morsi is a practising Sunni Muslim and attends a mosque.
