Choudhury entered in the 100 metres and 4 × 100 metres at the 1987 South Asian Games. He won silver medals in both events, running times of 10.83 and 41.39 seconds on 2nd leg for the relay respectively.[3] He also competed at the 1987 Asian Athletics Championships, where he set the best-ever finish for a Bangladeshi athlete in the 100 metres by running 11.05 seconds for 6th in his semi-final.[4]

Choudhury qualified in the long jump and 4 × 100 metres at the 1988 Olympics. He fouled all three of his jumps to place 17th in his long jump qualification group.[5] In the relay, he ran second leg for the Bangladeshi team to finish in 41.78 seconds for 6th in his heat, which did not advance.[6]

At the 1989 South Asian Games in Islamabad, Choudhury competed on the 4 × 100 m relay again. Running third leg, his team recorded a 40.59-second time to win the silver medal behind India.[3] He set another record for the best-ever Bangladeshi finish at the 1989 Asian Athletics Championships, placing 4th in his 200 metres heat with a 21.92-second time.[4]

In January 1990, Choudhury competed at the Commonwealth Games in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 × 100 metres relay as lead-off leg. He was eliminated in the first round in the 100 metres and relay, running times of 11.14 seconds and 42.47 seconds respectively for 6th in both heats. However, he advanced to the quarter-finals of the 200 metres, running a wind-aided time of 22.10 seconds in his heat for 5th. In his quarter-final later that day, he ran 22.25 seconds wind-aided again for 8th and did not advance to the semi-finals.[6] His 1990 Games performance was used in contrast to Bangladeshi athletes at the 2022 Commonwealth Games which could not advance past the first round.[7]

Later that year at the 1990 Asian Games, Chowdhury entered the 100 metres, 200 metres, 4 × 100 m relay, and 4 × 400 m relay. He placed 5th in his 100 m heat in 10.80 seconds and did not advance. In the 200 m, he ran 21.83 in his heat to advance to the second semi-final, where he was 7th in 22.21 and did not qualify for the finals. In his 4 × 100 m heat, Chowdhury was 5th in 43.08 seconds and also did not advance. However, in the 4 × 400 m Chowdhury led off for the Bangladeshi team that advanced to the finals with a 3:13.81 minute time. In the finals, he led off again to place 8th in 3:15.14.[8]
