Early Life and Education Shalini Vatsa was born in Patna, India. Raised in an academic environment—both her parents were professors at Patna University—she was drawn to the performing arts from an early age. She studied Political Science at Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi, and later pursued an M.Phil. at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

She began acting in school plays and later trained in theater under acclaimed directors Barry John and Habib Tanvir. Vatsa worked extensively in Barry John's Theatre in Education (TIE) program and was associated with Habib Tanvir’s Naya Theatre repertory.

Career Vatsa made her film debut in Peepli Live (2010), portraying Dhaniya, a role that earned her early critical attention. She continued to take on compelling roles in socially driven cinema, including Shanghai (2012), Shahid (2013), and Gurgaon (2016).

In the Netflix crime drama Sacred Games (2018–2019), she played Kanta Bai, a supporting but memorable role that gained her mainstream recognition.

In 2020, Vatsa starred in Anurag Basu’s ensemble film Ludo, portraying Lata Kutty, a nurse. Her performance was widely praised.

In 2025, Vatsa starred in Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, where it received critical acclaim and a standing ovation.
