Shanghai Taste is a women-owned Shanghainese restaurant located at 1121 Nelson Street in Rockville, Maryland, United States. It specializes in handmade Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) and sheng jian bao (pan-fried pork buns).

History

Shanghai Taste is located in the Woodley Gardens neighborhood of Rockville, Maryland, in Montgomery County. The restaurant is women-owned and Asian-owned.

Reception

The Washington Post food critic Tim Carman reviewed Shanghai Taste in 2016, calling it "the virtuoso of soup dumplings."[1] Carman also included Shanghai Taste in his list of "Favorite Cheap Eats of 2016."

In 2025, Eater DC named Shanghai Taste among the best Chinese restaurants around Washington, D.C., describing it as "delivering authentic flavors in a small, unpretentious setting."[2]

Food economist Tyler Cowen, who maintains the Ethnic Dining Guide, described Shanghai Taste's Xiao Long Bao as "probably the best of our region."[3]
